Questions drivers ask

About us
Is Vancouver Auto Parts a parts store or a repair shop?
Both. Every location has a parts counter and a full-service repair shop with skilled mechanics. Buy the part and fit it yourself, or leave the car with us. We’ve sold parts and fixed cars in the Lower Mainland since 1987. Call your nearest location and ask for the parts counter or the repair shop.
What are your hours?
All three shops are open Monday to Saturday, from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm. We’re closed on Sunday. The top of every page shows if we’re open right now. If you need to drop the car off at a set time, call your shop first so we can plan for it.
About the repair shop
Can you fix my car the same day?
Often, yes. We offer same-day service for most repairs. Call your nearest shop in the morning and tell us what the car is doing. We’ll tell you when we can get it in. Bigger jobs can take longer, and so can parts that have to be ordered.
Do I need an appointment?
It helps. Call your nearest shop or send the estimate form, and we’ll set a time. We offer same-day service for most repairs, so it’s worth a call in the morning even on short notice. Tell us what the car is doing, and we’ll tell you when we can get it in.
How much will my repair cost?
It depends on your vehicle and what it needs. Tell us the year, make and model and what the car is doing. Some problems need a look before we can price them. We tell you what we found, and you decide what work goes ahead. Ask for an estimate any time.
What makes and models do you work on?
We work on a wide range of makes and models, cars and trucks alike. Our diagnostic tools cover all makes and models, so we can read the fault codes on your vehicle. If you drive something unusual, call your nearest shop before you book and we’ll tell you if we can help.
What should I do when the check engine light comes on?
Check that the gas cap is tight, then book a scan. The light can point to something minor or something serious, and the car can’t tell you which. We read the codes, find the cause and explain it in plain words. You decide what happens next.
How often should I get my brakes checked?
A good habit is to have them checked every time your tires are rotated. One of our mechanics measures the thickness of your brake pads while the wheels are off, so you know how much is left. Come in sooner if you hear squealing or grinding, or if the pedal feels soft.
About the parts counter
How do I know I’m buying the right part?
Tell us the year, make and model of your vehicle before you buy, and we’ll check the fit at the counter. For wheels and tires, ask our team to confirm the fitment. Not sure what you have? Call your nearest counter and we’ll work it out with you.
Can I order parts on this website?
Not on this site. There is no cart or checkout here. Call your nearest parts counter, or send the parts request form with the year, make and model and the part you need. The counter checks stock and fit, then calls you back with a price.
Do you deliver auto parts?
Yes, in Burnaby and Richmond. Burnaby orders usually arrive within a couple of hours. Richmond orders placed before 4:30 pm arrive the same day. We deliver to your home or straight to your mechanic’s shop. At a shop, someone needs to be there to sign for the parts.
Can I return a part?
Unused parts in their original packaging can be returned within 30 days, with the original invoice. A 20% handling charge applies. Electronic parts and opened gaskets can’t be returned. Installed parts can’t be returned either, unless the part was wrong because of a catalogue error.
