How often to grease a tractor depends on the maker and the work. One tractor maker gives a standard rule of every eight hours of use. A US dealer says every 50 hours in normal conditions.
One farm grease seller lists front loaders as a daily job, along with PTO shafts during heavy work. Mud, dust and pressure washing call for more grease too.
Grease these spots most often:
- Front loader: daily when it works hard
- PTO shaft: daily during heavy work
- Steering: tie rod ends and king pins
- Three-point hitch: the hitch joints
Wipe each fitting clean first so you don’t push dirt into the seal. Pump until a little grease oozes out, then wipe off the extra. Too much pressure can stretch seals.
A Canadian safety agency says to lower hydraulics and stop the engine before any maintenance. Don’t trust hydraulic cylinders to hold a raised loader, because they can fail without warning.
Your operator’s manual comes first, since some points have their own intervals. Our Surrey and Port Moody shops carry farm machinery and equipment parts. For the full list, read our tractor maintenance checklist.
